From reading to real change

Every Sunday we gather at Fablab Rwanda to discuss a book. But we believe reading well is only half the work — the other half is showing up for people beyond the page. These are the two projects our community carries together.

Why we act

Books have a way of sharpening our conscience. We finish a chapter about injustice, generosity, or courage, and we can either close the book or let it change how we live the coming week.

Goal Diggers chose the second path. Our projects are how a group of readers translates reflection into responsibility — quietly, locally, and for the long haul. They are not campaigns or one-time drives. They are commitments we renew, page after page, month after month.

Every project we run answers three questions honestly: Is it needed here? Can we sustain it? Does it treat people with dignity? When the answer is yes to all three, we begin.

What we're building

Students at school — supported by the Goal Diggers scholarship program.

The Scholarship Program

We pay full school fees, uniforms, books, and meals for five remarkable children in Kigali — from primary school all the way through secondary. It is our longest commitment and our proudest one.

Insurance for Abanyerondo

We cover annual Mutuelle de Santé for the night watchmen in our neighborhood — the men who walk our streets at three in the morning so the rest of us can sleep. Small monthly gifts from members buy a full year of health cover for a family.

How we choose our projects

We are a small community with real limits. So we have four rules for every project we take on — a compass we hold up before saying yes.

Local

Someone on our team should be able to visit, see, and be accountable in person.

Real

The need must be concrete and the impact must be measurable, not vague.

Sustainable

We only start what our community can honestly keep going for years — not weeks.

Dignified

No one we help is a mascot for our giving. Names, faces, and stories are shared only with consent.

Reading is where we start

Sponsor a child, cover a watchman's Mutuelle, come to a Sunday discussion, or send us the name of someone who could benefit. Every door in is a good one.
